The GIANT of the surgeon’s oral exam was upon them. Five of Seattle Grace’s residents had to fly to San Francisco to take their exam. Make it or break it time.

Meredith, Christina, Avery, Karev, and Kepner all boarded the shuttle. Owen told Kepner to say out loud, ‘I am a soldier.’ Didn’t help. Kepner was a mess. Once at the lobby Kepner was the first to make an enemy with another competing resident. Great, just great.

Karev’s mind was not present. He was caught up on his intern’s preemie baby. Poor little baby would need another surgery. Karev called Dr. Robbins and she told him there was nothing he could do. So what did Alex do?

FLEE

Karev left the hotel and flew back to Seattle. What was he thinking? The surgery was not successful. Alex stayed with his intern until her baby died in her arms. Dr. Robbins told Karev he had three hours to haul ass to get back to San Francisco in time for his exam.

FIGHT

Kepner and Avery had dinner together. Kepner wound up tight with anxities. The competing resident she pissed off earlier got up all in her face. Kepner PUNCHED the stranger on the nose. Avery stood in front to protect her. Stranger punched Avery.

Kepner went all Sarah Connor and jumped on the guy. She actually got into a bar-brawl. Didn’t know she had it in her. Chief Webber broke it up.

Kepner and Avery went back to her room. She kissed him. Kepner wanted to be with him. Avery DE-VIRGIN-IZED her.

FLU

Meredith’s little girl Zola had the stomach flu. That meant… oh, no. Oh, no! Yep, Meredith had the stomach flu. H-U-R-L in the lobby before she registered. Gross. No way would Christina let Meredith stay sick.

Yang got an IV bag to push the virus out of Grey’s body. They stayed in adjoining rooms. Meredith couldn’t sleep. Nor could Yang. They both leaned against the adjoining door to their rooms.

Christina finally told her that Owen cheated on her. Meredith told her that she knew. Christina didn’t know if her marriage was over or not. Meredith asked Christine as she was going to leave Seattle. ‘Yes.’ Meredith then said,

‘You’re leaving me, too.’

A moment of silence passed between them. They are each other’s person, best friends as it were. The twisted sisters. Meredith asked Yang to put her hand under the door. She placed her hand on top. Yang cried.

One of the five residents will fail the exam.

Karev – The mess up. The screw-up. Isn’t it too obvious?
Kepner – She’s highly organized but seriously rattled with anxieties.
Avery – It would be a disgrace to his family name if he failed.
Yang – The most ambitious surgeon of all. It would kill her if she failed.
Meredith – Taught to pass by the Torres Method. If she failed Dr. Torres would kill her.

Verdict: Predictable. Sentimental. Sappy love story with lonely girl and sexy man looking for love. It’s a renter.

Emily knew her father died in prison. He got in the middle of a prison fight. But that’s not the absolute truth. The truth – Graysons had him killed!

Day 15 of Daniel’s trial. It’s no longer summer at the Hamptons but a bitter winter. Daniel was in trouble. Prosecution mounted physical evidence against him. Slick Vicky not about to allow her son to go to jail.

She hired Thug-Man once again to threaten the family of Juror #3. Cause a hung jury. How did Emily find out? Emily bugged the Grayson’s house. Now she can hear their dirty little secrets.

Before we get to that here’s a run down of events:

• Jack chased after fake Amanda but couldn’t find her
• Declan testified Charlotte was drunk and on drugs on the beach
• Charlotte continued her drug use and now with an old boyfriend
• Conrad threatened Vicky’s artist-lover to leave town
• Emily ransacked Jack’s home to steal the bloodied hoodie

Emily’s turn to burn.

She took Jack’s hoodie and placed it inside Thug-Man’s car. Then she anonymously put out an Amber alert. Police quickly found the car. Thug-Man arrested on spot. Thug-Man saw the bloodied hoodie inside his car.

‘Hey, that’s not mine!’

Who’s going to believe him? Emily now had the Graysons cornered. Thug-Man would reveal all of their dirty little secrets. Every payoff. Every evil deed to save his own skin from life in prison.

Thug-Man died!

As Daniel’s defense lawyer came to see him the guards found Thug-Man hanging in his cell. Chaos. There was a suicide note. No way would Thug-Man kill himself.

Nolan dropped by Emily’s place and she replayed a phone conversation of Conrad. All of this time she had been focused on how the Grayson’s framed her father, David Clark. She did not consider how he really died in prison.

She was told that it was a prison fight. David got caught in the middle. But because she bugged Grayson’s house she discovered the real truth.

Conrad made a call. Ask the man on the phone to do what he did to David Clark to someone else at Riker’s. That’s how Thug-Man died. He was killed.

That means…

Grayson’s are MURDERERS!

Team Adam and Team Cee Lo on the chopping block. Two more singing contestants cut from The Voice. I totally agree with the judge’s call on this night.

Special guest performance by Florence + the Machine singing, “”No Light, No Light.” It was okay but it’s forgettable.

Tony Lucca and Juliet Simms had the #1 and #2 rock download song on iTunes. No surprises there. Contestants saved by America were Tony Lucca and Jamar Rogers.

What???

Jamar saved over Juliet. I ask for a recount of votes because that’s just messed up.

Last chance sing-off…

Mathai – “Casanova Cowboy.”

She pranced. She danced. Off key at the end. Spend more time looking at the stage floor than connecting with the audience.

Katrina Parker – “Perfect.”

Blonde Adele sang every note with passion from the get-go. Blake stated that Katrina was the best singer on Adam’s team. Christina agreed. So do I.

Cheesa – “Already Gone.”

In her desperate hour she screamed the chorus. To me it did not sound polished or refined.

Juliet Simms – “Torn.”

Song started off a little slow and then BAM! Juliet powered with passion. I don’t think those black wings the night before did her any good service. It’s all image too, not just voice.

Adam saved Katrina.
Cee Lo saved Juliet.

I think of all the contestants these last two nights Tony Lucca and Juliet Simms have broken away from the pack. They have elevated their performances.

What I don’t understand is why Juliet has been in the bottom three twice now when she has had two top rock songs on the iTunes.

Somehow she’s not connecting with the viewing audience. Once she figures that out, she’ll be good to go all the way.

Mercedes held a photo of Whitney Houston. She sang a cappella, “How Will I Know.” As she walked down the hallway she’s joined by Rachel, Kurt, and Santana. It’s a cappella for most of the song and it’s beautiful.

Will thought it would be a great for Glee club to pay tribute to Whitney Houston. Everyone was game. During class Britney cut loose in uber-fast choreographed number, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”

Britney wanted to dance with everyone including Quinn. That she danced with her in her dreams and also that Quinn could fly and breathe fire. (Britney definitely lives in her own little planet.)

Quinn stung a bit.

She’s in a wheelchair now. Her therapy not going as well as she had hoped. Joe Deadlocks encouraged her. In class they sang a duet “Saving All My Love For You.” It was great to hear Quinn sing again. The duet was smooth and silky.

Kurt met his mirrored self at a music store. Chandler not as cool dresser and very hyper. He asked for Kurt’s number. Not a good idea when you’re in a relationship to give out your number there, Kurt.

Back in class Rachel and Santana sang, “So Emotional.” Frienemies finally called a truce. Rachel said, ‘You knew we blew it, right?’ They could have been singing together for the last three years instead of fighting. Santana hates that she actually now gives a crap. They have 42 days left to make some good memories.

Rachel warned Santana she’s gonna hug her, but she’ll make it quick – fun-ny!

Blaine discovered Kurt’s cheat-texts. It’s not innocent if you hide messages from your boyfriend. In class Blaine powered “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay.” He walked out once he was finished.

*Snap*

Kurt, that’s not a good way to treat your boyfriend. Then Kurt’s father tells him how much he will miss Kurt when he leaves for New York. That emotion coupled with Blaine’s anger had Kurt reevaluate things.

“I Have Nothing.” Kurt sang directly to Blaine during class. It was a wonderful apology through song.

Even though everyone had plans to do something else, they all gathered back at the auditorium. They sang “My Love is Your Love.” Each Glee one by one joined in to top off the tribute for a superstar.

To Whitney Houston with Love…

F-A-M-E!

CW’s new series The L.A. Complex centers on the lives of  young aspiring Hollywood wannabes. This off take of a Canadian soap opera attempts to show the gritty side of making your dreams comes true in L.A.

Southland does a better job showing the gritty side of Hollywood. Glee does a better job showing how talented kids chase dreams.

Here are the players in the pilot:

RAQUEL once had a starring role in a series, “Teenage Wasteland.” Older she now can’t get into any audition.

ALICIA is a dancer. She gets far in her auditions but doesn’t quite get the gig. Blonde and innocent during day. Naughty at night as a stripper.

TARIQ is an errand boy at a music studio. He badly wants his music  recorded.

CONNOR is an Australian hottie who just landed a pilot. He “made it”  not because he has talent but because he is pretty.

NICK wants to become a comedian. Problem is that he’s NOT funny.

ABBY an aspiring actress and singer. A mixed nut mess. Kicked out of her apartment. Her car tire booted by police because of unpaid parking tickets.

Abby and Connor hooked up at “The Lux,” a roach motel where most of the kids live. Both drunk they had unprotected sex. He had to buy her the day after pill because well, she’s broke.

The pill made Abby nauseous and uh, she had an audition within an hour. She sang an original song for her favorite director. Then Abby up chucked all over the piano.

Ugh.

I didn’t care. I think that’s the problem with the show. It might be guilty pleasure for some viewers. I found it a bore. Just another CW Teen soap opera. But then again I’m tainted.

Glee and Fame had characters that I could invest in and who showed real talent. Here, I found everyone uninteresting, underwhelming and untalented.

L.A. Complex is as shallow as L.A.

Verdict: Romantic comedy that is funny in parts but plays out like an infomercial for Steve Harvey’s book. You could just buy the book and skip the movie.

I wonder if being at the show sounds different than hearing the singers on television. I can’t BELIEVE who they sent home this week. Seriously!

This elimination round was between Team Adam and Team Cee Lo. I disagree with the judges.I think the music lost in the translation through the airwaves.

On with the show…

Jamar Rogers – “It’s My Life.”

His first verse he did not enunciate the words. The band way too loud. Jamar sang hard just to be heard. It was underwhelming on all counts.

Katrina Parker – “Jar of Hearts.”

Her voice sounded a little hoarse. Still this blonde Adele can really sing. She can evoke emotions in her stillness. She doesn’t need all the flash, dancers all around her or fire on the stage. Just give her a microphone and she’s good to go.

Mathai’s – “I’m Like a Bird.”

No question she has a unique voice. But sometimes it’s so soft she cannot project the song itself. It was a nice pop song. But nice does not win a singing competition.

James Massone – “Just the Way You Are.”

A smooth jazzy mix was nice to this song choice. James does not have a very strong voice. It was a bit pitchy in parts. The performance was enjoyable but not outstanding.

Tony Lucca – “Baby One More Time.”

The former Mouseketeer sang a song from a former Mouseketeer Britney Spears. It was a nice rock mix. A very unique version to the song and he made it his own. Kudos!

Cheesa – “I Have Nothing.”

It’s risky to sing a Whitney Houston song because you’re compared to her. Cheesa did not make the song her own. The notes were just loud and she lacked passion.

Pip – “Somewhere Only We Know.”

He started his song by playing the piano.  I like that. He sang the song nicely but he did not evoke any emotion into the performance.

Juliet Simms – “Cryin’.”

She came out dressed with black wings. It made me laugh. I don’t think that was a good costume choice. Shaky start. Raspy chorus. And then she just threw herself into the song. I’ll give her props for that every time.

Time to cut two singers from the The Voice.

Adam – Pip

The two cute potential heartthrobs got the ax. I think the judges got it wrong. What do you think?

After entering a chamber called Project Rebirth Steve became the world’s first “Super Soldier.” His fighting weapon is an indestructible disc-shaped shield.

The Hulk alias Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo)

Scientist Banner had an accident in his laboratory which exposed him to gamma radiation. As a result when Bruce becomes angry he transforms into a giant green monster that’s unstoppable.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth)

The Mighty God of Thunder comes from the realm of Asgard. He has a natural high resistance to injury but not quite invincible. His weapon is a War Hammer.

Black Widow alias Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson)

World’s most skilled assassin and greatest spy, her weapons include the widow stings and cluster bombs. She’s also highly trained in various forms of martial arts.

Hawkeye alias Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner)

Skilled with the recurve bow he has customized arrows in his arsenal and able to fire with perfect precision.

Who is your favorite Avenger?

Rumpelstiltskin never breaks a contract or deal except on one occasion. And it was a doozy. It cost him his family.

In fairytale land the dark power Rumpelstiltskin accidentally inherited got stronger. Made him into a monster. A killer. Case in point, his son Bae was accidentally hit by a donkey cart. Bae told his father he was fine.

Had a small gash on his leg. The driver of the donkey cart profusely apologized. Rumpel zapped the poor sob into a snail. As if that was not bad enough, Rumple then squashed the snail.

GROSS!

Bae wanted his father to become the man he was, a kind man (hard to believe, I know). They talked about it over dinner. If Bae could find a way without using the dagger to return his father to normal, would his dad make a deal. That meant no more magic. Be normal like everyone else.

Deal.

Rumple shook on it but remember ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ Bae discovered through a friend that there was a power greater than his father’s. Reul Ghorm.

I thought it was some huge ugly creature like Rumple. But it was a Blue Fairy (she was sooo cute). Bae went out into the woods and called for her. She gave him a magic bean. The last of its kind.

To make Rumpelstiltskin human again they must leave fairytale land. The magic bean was a portal into a world without magic. Bae took his father into the woods and toss the magic bean him on the ground. A bright green tornado appeared.

Bae slid down into the whirling vortex. Grab his father’s arm. Begged his father to come with him. Rumpelstiltskin refused. Bae went down alone.

Rumpelstiltskin lost his son.

He too, called upon the Blue Fairy. She said there was no other way to find his son. Rumple pleaded stated there must be a way, maybe even a curse.

Ah-Ha!

So now we understand why Rumpelstiltskin went into a deal with the Evil Queen to create that curse that turned fairytale land into Storybrooke. It was all about finding Bae.

In Storybrooke the mysterious writer who rode into town on a motorcycle pretended to be Bae. Mr. Gold fell for it. For a moment I thought that was his son all grown up. But when the mysterious writer tried to use the dagger against Mr. Gold, he knew that was not his son.

Who is this mystery writer? And what happened to Bae?
