Who doesn’t love Betty White? She’s America’s golden girl. She’s witty, comical and uh, raunchy. Betty is the only celebrity who can play innocent and wicked all in one scene.
Star-studded bash celebrated her 90th birthday on NBC Monday night. Amy Poehler, Joel McHale, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett, the entire cast of Hot in Cleveland and so many more celebrities were present.
A few celebrities including Hugh Jackman and Ray Ramano celebrated by a taped birthday card sentiment. Best birthday card writer however was President Obama.
Yes, the President of the United States was part of the birthday celebration. (Betty is after all a national treasure.) Obama asked if Betty could prove she was 90-years old by producing a long-form birth certificate. That was funny Mr. President!
Amy Poeler began the evening by calling Betty a pioneer. I thought she meant because Betty was one of the first women to host her on television programs. Nope, it was, as Amy put it, “I call her a pioneer because 90 years ago she literally arrived to California on stage coach.” The show started with a bang!
They highlighted a few clips from Mary Tyler Moore Show, Golden Girls, Hot in Cleveland and many others. Her career by the way spans seventy years. Other clips shown were of her game show gigs. Betty met the love of her life Allen Ludden on Password.
Jennifer Love Hewitt spoke of Betty’s long-life love for animals. Her parents would ask Betty when she was a small child if they could rescue a stray animal. So began the love for caring for domestic and wild animals.
Finally, Betty took the stage and everyone sang the theme song to Golden Girls. Funny how the young and old celebrities all knew the words:
Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant.
And if you through a party
Invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend.
Betty, from all of us on the internet and around the world, thank you for gracing us with you smile. For your wicked-innocent comedic antics. For being such a lovely person inside and out.
Betty White, thank you for being a friend.

I love Betty White! I want to be just like her when I’m old.
Allegra – does that mean you want to act slutty and innocent and get away with it? She was funny on SNL. I love her energy!
