The Good Wife – Season 3, Episode 13: “Bitcoins for Dummies.”

It’s the digital age so why not have digital money. The issue was paperless money called bitcoins. Unless the US Treasury says it’s money, it’s counterfeit. It’s not considered a commodity if a person can buy a book on Amazon with bitcoins.

Alicia’s help sought by lawyer Dylan Stack. Alicia won once against the Treasury, that’s why Dyland asked her to represent him. Dylan’s dilemma was that he could not reveal the identity of the bitcoin (digital money) inventor because of attorney-client privilege. Alicia did win that  in court. Win didn’t last. Dylan immediately arrested by US Treasury that he was indeed the inventor of bitcoin.

Great, just great.

Now all Alicia had to do was discover who really invented bitcoin. That’s Kalinda’s job. She attended Decode-a-Con, a convention of cryptographers. (I know, never heard of such a convention either.) After a bit of snooping around Kalinda pinpointed two possible suspects.

On the Will front he had hired a lawyer. Alicia recommended quirky unorthodox lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni. Will and Tascioni met with the three amigos from the DA’s office. Who got the upper hand? Tascioni. Never underestimate a quirky lawyer. They got played. Carey not happy. Will was.

Back to Kalinda.

She discovered the identity of bitcoin inventor. She asked the US Treasury lead guy to come over. She knew which room he was staying at in the hotel at the convention. Treasury guy and his goons did walk inside the hotel room (Kalinda had a key). No one was there.

In court Alicia put Kalinda on the stand. Out came the story how the US Treasury went into the hotel room in actuality still on the prowl for the real bitcoin inventor. That meant they did not believe Dylan was their guy.

‘Objection. Hearsay.’

Kalinda (sly dog) mentioned she accidentally recorded the meet at hotel with Treasury on her new cell phone. Oops. Busted. Case dismissed. So who was the bitcoin inventor? The two suspects at the convention AND Dylan. Kalinda couldn’t prove it, but she let Dylan know she knew.

Now was/is Will vulnerable?

He, Kalinda and quirky Tascioni had a meet in his office. Kalinda brought in a huge file. Tascioni asked if there was a memo, letter or anything in that file that could possibly hurt him. He said yes. She left. Will then looked at Kalinda and told her that he could not (legally) ask for her help. Kalinda grabbed the files and left.

What was in those files?

At a bar, Kalinda handed the files over to Dana from the DA’s office. Dana had a copy of the rider from last week, the one forged by Alicia through the slick hand of David Lee. No way would Kalinda let Alicia take the fall for David Lee. No way would Kalinda let Will go to prison.

So why hand over those files? How does that help Will?
