Unforgettable – Season 1, Episode 12: “Brotherhood.”

Detective Carrie Wells possesses a rare form of eidetic memory. Photography memory in non-technical terms. She remembers everything. Imagine yourself entering a room and your mind can recall every single item in that room.

My brain just snapped, how about yours? In this particular episode, Carrie forgets. I know, I know, unbelievable. Bet you’re thinking… Who? What? Why? When? Where? And How did Carrie forget?

Case about a sophomore college student found dead in his room He wasn’t killed there, just dumped there. Suspect #1 the janitor (it’s either the butler or janitor depending on location of murder). Janitor had long rap sheet, but he wasn’t the killer. Janitor and the victim, Miles Novak were friends.

To answer the “Who.” Fraternity brothers (oh brother). Miles invited to join Frat house, but he didn’t make initiation. Carrie in her usually live-on-the-edge self went to a Frat party, alone.

Frat party answers the “Where” and “When.” Carrie played a little drinking game with Frat brothers. Poker cards turned face down, all 52 of them. They told her which card they wanted her to turn over. She had to guess (yeah, right) where the card was.

Each time she turned the right card over they had to take a shot. She drank bottled water. Goal was to make a Frat brother drunk enough to talk. One did. Spilled beans about trips to Toronto. Frat brothers had beforehand drugged her water (just when you thought bottled water was safe).

That answers the “Why” and “How.” Carrie got too close to the truth, was drugged then lost her memory. Drugs do funny things to the brain. Even with super memory powers like Carrie, she couldn’t remember fine details. Abstract. Splotchy. Erratic. She rammed her car into a tree. Officer asked her what happened.

“I can’t remember.”

Never thought I’d hear Carrie say those words. Next day with a warrant, Carrie and Al revisited the Frat house. Drunken kids on floor, on sofa, on whatever.

Place was a mess. Carrie remembered she walked up the stairs. Two men grabbed her. One was the pledge brother, but he was way too obvious to be the killer. The other someone she’d never seen. She escaped their grasp, but unclear on details.

Now to the “What.” Victim Miles discovered a drug ring in the midst of the fraternity. The Frat boys were mules (unbeknown to them) to transport tee shirts to Toronto.

Soak a tee shirt in liquid cocaine. Let it dry. To retrieve cocaine rinse tee shirt in a mix of water and industrial cleaner. Then heat it up to burn off liquid. Residual powder would be pure cocaine. In this case, the drug ring used a dry cleaners.

At the dry cleaners on campus NYPD and detectives found the pledge master beaten, tied to a chair. (Seriously, there’s no honor among thieves.) They caught the other guy.

There wasn’t a lot of heart in this show, but at the end, Al asked Carrie out for a drink. His wife was out of town. (Oh geez, like that’s a smart move.) Carrie declined. She then called Mob Jr. Asked him out. (Oh geez, like THAT’S a smart move.)

What did you think about Carrie losing her memory? What do you think about the blossoming romance between Carrie and Steve (mob Jr.)?
