Top Chef - Season 9, Episode 10: “Restaurant Wars.”

The most anticipated episode of the season. The most dreadful elimination challenge for the chef-testants. Padma announced a twist.

This year it would be the battle of the sexes, boys against girls. Coin toss the boys had to cook first night. Girls second night.

Men’s team comprised of Ty, Edward, Paul, and Chris.
Women’s team comprised of Beverly, Sarah, Grayson, and Lindsay.

Both teams had 45-minutes to come up with a theme and menu. Boy immediately in sync. Girls catty from the get-go. Sarah became a Mini-Me version of the Queen of Mean Heather.

Beverly wanted to braise short ribs. Sarah told her she’s done ribs before, do something else. Grayson asked, ‘Why?’

Beverly cooked ribs well and after all, it’s a team effort right? Sarah had it in for Beverly from get-go. Loudmouth broads pick on the meek and mild.

In the end, Beverly would get a little bit of her own back.

Challenge was to create a three-course menu for 100 guests. The catch? Each team had only five hours to cook and decorate their restaurant. Oh my, oh my. This is why chefs love and hate this challenge.

Boys named their restaurant Canteen, where a community comes to dine. Lame. Girls named their restaurant Half Bushel. Lame.

So let’s talk about the service. Edward was in charge of the front of the house. They forgot to appoint someone to expedite the orders. Chaos ensued. The girls did get a chance to eat at the boy’s restaurant. Did they learn from the experience?

Uh, no.

Girls had trouble too. Lindsay in charge of the front of house, however, she spent too much time in the back of house. That left patrons waiting in the foyer. Even the judges, something you don’t want to do in this challenge.

What saved the girls? Their food was better. The boys had better overall service, but it’s the food that mattered, not the service. So, who won the challenge?

Beverly!!!

Oh, yeah. Grayson gave her a big hug. Sarah, not so much. Nor Lindsay. Beverly won a huge bottle of wine plus a trip to a vineyard in Napa Valley.

Boys faced the judges table. Ty had the worst dish and had to pack up his knives and go.

What did you think about the anti-Beverly movement with Sarah and Lindsay? Did you think the girls would win?
