Modern Family - Season 3, Episode 11: “Lifetime Supply.

When Phil’s lifetime supply of razors that he won on a game show stops, and he misses a call from his doctor, everyone goes insane with assumptions that he might die. Hilariously so.

Throughout the show, Phil watches as his kids play games and learn languages in the hopes that he will get to enjoy his last moments with them.

Gloria let’s Manny’s father Javier, take him out to see the racing horses while she teaches Phil’s daughter how to speak Spanish.

However, Jay can’t seem to convince young Manny that the logical way in betting is the way to go when he loses money on the horse named “Little Bacon” for being disqualified.

Mitchell receives a distinguished environmental law award from his firm, which fuels Cam to bring out his awards as well. The gay couple competes to display their lifetime accomplishments.

Mitchell realizes that he was being petty about a trophy when Cam clearly has a lifetime of accolades that Cam has hidden so that he wouldn’t feel bad.

Phil’s kid Luke makes friends with an 85-year-old man who has actually been in war and plays video games with him.

When the show reaches its end we realize that Phil is appreciative of all his friends’ accompaniment and says that’s worth more and that he appreciates everything.

This show always manages to teach lessons in the most discreet way.

Number #1: Appreciate what you have.
Number #2: Live in the moment.
Number #3: Don’t try to compete with others’ glorified moments.

It makes for bad character. Or makes you act like a 14 year old girl in the words of Mitchell.

Watch Modern Family on ABC Wednesdays 9/8c.
