Pawn Stars – Season 3, Episode 13: “Smells Like Pawn Spirit.”
A little bit of history on this show. Items purchased:
- 1928 Charles Lindbergh doll – $500
- Iron hand blower – $350
- Circus roulette slot machine – $350
- Brother word processor – $20 (why, oh why?)
- 1905 Vaudeville sideshow poster – $600
Charles Lindbergh’s famous transatlantic flight from New York to Paris occurred on May 21, 1927. A young man came into the pawnshop with a “Little Lindy Doll” made in 1928, a year after the flight.
Doll was in good condition. Clothing on doll had no visible stains, rips or tears. Face had minor cosmetic issues. Even had little leather goggle. You could tell the young man liked his doll (but not in a creepy way).
Poor kid touched his doll one last time before he made the deal. Then Chumlee grabbed the doll by its legs. Yo bro, show some respect for the guy’s doll!
Rick took the doll to Johnny’s toy store. He appraised it for about $1,200. Rick sold it to Johnny for $800. Talk about a quick turn around sell on an item. Sheesh.
Corey bought a self-standing electric iron hand blower. Why? Who’s gonna buy it?
Rick and Corey went to see a seller about roulette slot machine. Even Rick had a hard time working the machine. Rick said it would be a tough sell. Great condition, clean even had $100 worth of quarters inside.
Corey made the deal. That’s two odd buys from Corey.
Another seller came in with a vintage circus poster with a juggler, sword swallower, and exotic dancer. Houdini style as it were. Poster had water damage on the edge.
Rick told seller it was a stone lithography copy. More rare than metal so Rick bought it.
Then had it appraised. Uh, shouldn’t you get an item appraised before you buy it? Rick got lucky. A vintage Hollywood memorabilia expert loved the quality of the poster. But it wasn’t a stone lithograph copy.
Rick, you got it wrong.
It was a copy from a metal lithograph however, (drum roll) due to its condition and rarity of the size of the poster, it was valued at $1000-$2,500! Rick just about passed out. For a moment, he thought he gambled wrong. Not this time, he got it right.
Wait, the show was not over. Old gentleman brought in an 80s word processor. Seriously? It’s not a collector’s item. It’s obsolete. Old man unhappy with Rick’s offer at $20 left the store.
But old man changed his mind and came back. Rick offered him $20 so he had to buy it. Bawhahahaha! This time Rick, you got it sooo wrong.
Would you have bought the hand dryer or slot machine? What did you think about the word processor?
